Student visas

Applicants for full-time student visas (F-1 visas) will receive the Form I-20 after acceptance to the ELP. The Form I-20 is the immigration document presented to local U.S. consulates or embassies when applying for an F-1 visa (student visa). Attached to the Form I-20 will be a letter from International Admissions explaining how to apply for an F-1 visa. If a student decides not to attend the program, the Form I-20 must be returned to the ELP office (OIE – English Language Program, Virginia Commonwealth University, P.O. Box 843043, Richmond, VA 23284-3043).

Students who study in the ELP with F-1 status are required to register as full-time students in the ELP. These students attend from 20-23 hours of class per week.

B-2 visa
ELP students should not enter the United States on a B-2 or WP (tourist) visa if planning to study at the university. For more specific information regarding incidental study while in the U.S., please contact the Immigration Services Office at (804) 828-0595.

Express Mailing
If the application should be express mailed (delivery in three-to-five business days, depending on location), please indicate express mailing on the ELP application.
