Narrator: The Virginia Department of Social Services reports that across the state, nearly 9,000 children were found to be the victims of at least one form of abuse or neglect in just one year.

Narrator: The most predominant type of abuse is neglect, followed by physical and sexual abuse. Some children were also the victims of emotional maltreatment and medical neglect.
