CWS5692: Mandated Reporters: Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect - Online
This self-paced, interactive, online course offers an overview of the signs of child abuse and neglect and the responsibilities of reporting. After taking this course, mandated reporters will know what to do when they suspect child abuse and/or neglect and the steps that need to be taken to report their suspicions.

Topics include:

  • Understanding the role and responsibilities of a mandated reporter
  • Defining the types of child abuse and neglect recognized in Virginia
  • Identifying the definitions of abuse and neglect
  • Recognizing the indicators of abuse and neglect
  • Determining the appropriate responses to disclosure of abuse and neglect
  • Following procedures for reporting suspected child abuse and neglect
  • Knowing the information needed by CPS when making a report
  • Being familiar with the typical response by CPS to reports of suspected abuse and neglect
