BPS2130: Introduction to Families & Children Medicaid and FAMIS - Online
This self-paced, interactive, online course offers an overview of Families & Children Medicaid and FAMIS. After taking this course, trainees will possess a fundational understanding of the basic concepts of F&C Medicaid and FAMIS in preparation of attending Phase II classroom training.

Topics include:

  • Overview of Medicaid and FAMIS, including the history framing these programs
  • The roles of Local Department of Social Services (LDSS) eligibility workers and DMAS in eligibility for Families and Children applications/cases
  • F&C Medicaid acronyms and commonly used terms
  • How to access F&C Medicaid and FAMIS broadcasts and manuals online
  • Financial and non-financial criteria for eligibility
  • Classifications, Covered Groups and Sequential Processing
  • Forming Family Units, Assistance Units and Budget Units
  • Determining monthly income using weekly, bi-weekly and semi-monthly conversion factors
  • Identifying income exclusions for Medicaid and FAMIS eligibility
  • Discontinuation and renewal of F&C Medicaid benefits
