The Virginia Institute for Social Services Training Activities (VISSTA) at VCU is committed to playing a key role in statewide training for the Virginia Social Services System.  We recognize that continuing education, training and staff development, driven by the goal of performance improvement and exceptional customer service, will result in a more highly trained, better equipped workforce.

VCU-VISSTA is focused on the development and delivery of mandated, required, and policy training opportunities for our colleagues in the local, regional and state VDSS offices.  In addition to the campus activities of developing training curricula and maintaining a cadre of statewide trainers, VCU–VISSTA operates one of the five Area Training Centers where much of the training in those regions occurs.  Our vision is to use the expertise of the university to assist the Department of Social Services in addressing their training needs.  VCU–VISSTA’s role in training has evolved over the years and will most likely continue on a path of change in the future.
