Virginia is for Families

Overview
The Virginia is for Families project promotes an individual and family support agenda in Virginia based upon the principles of self-determination. The project works through local, regional, and statewide groups to advance understanding, policy, and practice geared specifically towards making self-determined individuals and family support, viable options in Virginia. Awareness, funding, and demonstrations are project targets. (Funded by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.)

Major Activities

  • Educate and support individuals and family members in the use of consumer directed services to gain more choice and control
  • Through a community partner, demonstrate a new approach to self-determined individual and family support (Microboards)
  • Support the continued growth of the Family Support and Self-Determination Network
  • Evaluate project outcomes through an action research process using intermediate feedback to make revisions and changes to strategic efforts
