Virginia Lead Poisoning Education Project

Overview
A partnership between the Virginia Department of Health and the Partnership for People with Disabilities has been created to implement statewide lead poisoning education. The goal is to eliminate childhood lead poisoning in Virginia by 2010. (Funded by the Virginia Department of Health's Lead Safe Virginia Program through the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency.)

Major Activities

  • Systematically provide information and technical assistance on childhood lead poisoning prevention to a wide range of stakeholder groups including parents and caregivers
  • Establish working relationships with public and provider agencies including local health departments
  • Increase the awareness and participation of primary health care providers in the prevention, management, and early identification of childhood lead poisoning
  • Provide educational opportunities for contractors, builders, painters, and home renovators in the private and public sectors on proper lead remediation and renovation practices
