Training Coordinator
Partnership for People with Disabilities
Virginia Commonwealth University
Youth with Hidden Disabilities in Virginia's Juvenile Justice System
Overview
This
is a half-time hourly position with the Partnership for People with Disabilities
(Partnership for People with Disabilities), a university center for excellence
in developmental disabilities at Virginia Commonwealth University. This
project is a collaborative effort between the Virginia Department of Criminal
Justice Services (DCJS) and Partnership for People with Disabilities.
The Training Coordinator will coordinate all training activities and technical
assistance follow-up for the Youth with Hidden Disabilities in Virginia's
Juvenile Justice System project. This is a project designed to educate
juvenile justice detention workers and probation officers across the state
about learning disabilities, educational rights and responsibilities,
and Positive Behavior Support interventions.
The start
date begins immediately, and ends December 31, 2002, with a strong likelihood
of continued funding beyond this period. Salary will be based upon experience.
Description
of Responsibilities
The
training coordinator will:
- Assist
project director with development of training announcements.
- Create
and maintain mailing list for training events and mail training announcements.
- Handle
training pre-registration.
- Coordinate
with juvenile justice personnel regarding training locations and ordering
food for training events.
- Schedule
technical assistance to sites following training.
- Oversee
assembly of training materials and trainer's manual.
- Assist
Program Director at training events to ensure smooth operation of event.
- Assist
project evaluator in the dissemination of evaluation instruments and
data entry.
- Participate
in Partnership for People with Disabilities activities and serve as
a member of one of Partnership for People with Disabilities's program
teams.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors
degree or equivalent experienced required.
- Experience
coordinating training activities, or similar events, strongly
preferred.
- Excellent
verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills required.
- Demonstrated
organizational skills with the ability to plan and prioritize activities
to meet deadlines required.

Organizational Specialist in Research
Partnership for People with Disabilities

Overview
This is a half-time collateral faculty position, with part-time leave
benefits, with the Partnership for People with Disabilities (Partnership
for People with Disabilities), a university center for excellence at Virginia
Commonwealth University. This individual has primary responsibility for
helping develop and maintain a clear research agenda for Partnership for
People with Disabilities. This position is open until filled.
Description
of Responsibilities
- In collaboration
with Partnership for People with Disabilities's program teams, design
plan for Partnership for People with Disabilities to establish interdisciplinary
research in developmental disabilities.
- Serve
as lead staff in the development of proposals to fund interdisciplinary
research.
- Participate
in at least one project that conducts on-going research and/or analyzes
research data.
- Assist
Partnership for People with Disabilities staff in the design and implementation
of research activities related to project work and team priorities and
provide technical support in research.
- Write
reports, scholarly manuscripts for publication, and presentations.
- Prepare
research applications for approval from VCU's Institutional Review Board.
- Coordinate
collection and analysis of data through the National Information and
Reporting System (NIRS).
- Provide
support to the organization through participation in professional development
activities, staff meetings, annual performance reviews, etc.
Minimum
Qualifications
- Doctoral
degree in human services field related to disabilities required (ABD
may be considered).
- Experience
in designing and conducting applied research in the disabilities arena
required, including skills in appropriate quantitative and qualitative
software applications.
- Experience
delivering scholarly presentations required, and record of scholarly
publications strongly preferred.
- Experience
in securing external funding strongly preferred.
- Excellent
verbal and written communication skills required.
- Experience
working within teams strongly preferred.
