Educating
Health Professionals about the Maltreatment of Individuals with Disabilities
: A National Developmental Disability Training Consortium
Overview
In
collaboration with seven University Centers for Excellence (UCEs) and
five Protection and Advocacy (P&As) Agencies across the nation, this
project of national significance addresses deficits in the knowledge and
skills of health professionals in responding to the maltreatment of individuals
with disabilities. This three-year project is developing, field-testing,
and disseminating state-of-the-art distance education materials (funded
by the Association on Developmental Disabilities and the U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services) to help prevent, identify, and report abuse
and neglect of persons with disabilities.

a comprehensive web-based course on maltreatment and disabilities suitable
for varied health professional audiences

a national developmental disability consortium among UCEs and P&A
agencies

sustainability and applicability of content by disseminating among selected
