VCURES Presents Three Abstracts at Shock Society's 25th
Annual Conference on Shock in Big Sky Montana:
Investigators at VCURES recently published and presented
three abstracts focusing on its cutting edge research at the
Shock Society's 25th Annual Conference on Shock held this
year in Big Sky Montana. The meeting is considered by many
as the premier world event focusing on the latest research
and development in the field of shock. The three abstracts
presented are below and can be found in the Supplement to
Shock Vol.17, 2002.
1) A Noninvasive Method of Determining Central Venous Pressure.
K.Ward, W. Barbee, M Tiba, J Arrowood, R Ivatury, E Lyders,
R Hummel, B Spiess. Shock 2002;17:15.
2) Development of the Biohemostat-A Treatment Modality for
High Pressure Bleeding Based on Super Absorbent Polymers.
M Carr, E Kenawu, J Layman, G Wnek, K Ward, W. Barbee, M.
Tiba. Shock 2002;17:54.
3) Noninvasive Tissue Oxygen Saturation Monitoring Using
Resonance Raman Spectroscopy (RRS). W. Barbee, K. Ward, J.
Terner, I Torres Filho, M. Tiba, L. Torres, R. Ivatury, B
Spiess, R. Pittman. Shock 2002;17:58.
The abstracts and presentations feature several unique monitoring
and treatment strategies being developed by VCURES and other
collaborators at Virginia Commonwealth University. "Each
presentation at the meeting was in poster format and generated
a tremendous amount of comment and discussion", said
Wayne Barbee. Dr. Barbee was kind enough to perform all of
the VCURES poster presentations at the conference.
