VCURES Investigator Speaks at International Mouse Physiology
Conference
R. Wayne Barbee, PhD was selected to present a poster at
the 3rd International Amsterdam Mouse Symposium held March
13-15, 2002 in Amsterdam. This international conference organized
under the auspices of the International Society for Heart
Research is gaining increased prominence due to the importance
of transgenic mice in medical research. "Despite knowledge
of the genome, significant gaps remain in developing clinically
relevant models of murine research especially for acute care
research given the size and differences in physiology between
mice and larger animals including rats" says Dr. Barbee.
The challenges have been so significant and the importance
so great that a web site has been created dedicated to the
latest in mouse physiology and experimental techniques (http://www.mousephysio.com/).
The site and conference is chaired by Dr. Can Ince who was
a VCURES visiting professor in 2001. Dr. Barbee's presentation
was entitled: Hemodynamic Characterization of Transgenic Mice
Overexpressing Atrial Natriuretic Peptide
Dr. Barbee is a pioneer in developing surgical and instrumentation
techniques for mice. For more information please contact
Dr. Barbee at: rwbarbee@hsc.vcu.edu.
