VCURES To Act as METI's Medical Director for Creation of WMD Simulation Scenarios

VCURES has agreed to provide medical direction and assistance to Medical Education Technologies, Inc, (METI) in development of training scenarios for biological and chemical weapons. METI (http://www.meti.com/home.html) is the technological leader in physiologic based human patient simulation and medical technologies and produces the Human Patient Simulator (HPS) and Emergency Care Simulator (ECS). The Human Patient Simulator is a fully functional platform that is used to train medical professionals in recognition and training of critical illness and injury. The events of September 11th have heightened the need to develop novel training tools for medical first responders to deal with the threat of weapons of mass destruction. The HPS and ECS platforms are ideal for such training because they allow the physiology of such threats to be realistically modeled.

METI has developed a "Train the Trainer" program for Weapons of Mass Destruction and bioterrorism training for medical professionals. Dr. Marsh Cuttino, the VCURES Director of Simulation and Informatics will be providing the medical direction and expertise to METI in chemical, biological and weapons of mass destruction scenario programming and simulation. For more information please contact Dr. Cuttino at cmcuttin@vcu.edu.
