VCURES Senior Fellow Selected to Serve National Advisory Board
Dr. Marsh Cuttino, VCURES Director of Simulation and Informatics, was appointed to the Medical Advisory Board of the National Center for Space Biologic Technologies (NCSBT). The Board provides advice and direction for NASA regarding medical and related technology issues for space flight.
Dr. Cuttino, who is also an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and Anesthesiology at VCU has led a VCURES effort to assist NASA in developing and testing a realistic training platform for evaluation of emergency procedures in micro gravity. This work uses human patient simulators flown on the NASA KC-135 Parabolic Laboratory. Dr. Cuttino will be presenting his research on simulating emergency medical procedures in micro gravity at Medicine Meets Virtual Reality 13 January 25-29 in Long Beach California . Dr. Cuttino's research is the first time that a human patient simulator has been used in the micro gravity environment.
