VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH ENDS ROAD TRIP WITH 75-58 LOSS AT WESTERN KENTUCKY
12-11-99
Forty minutes of cold shooting proved to be too much for Virginia Commonwealth to overcome as Western Kentucky handed the Rams a 75-58 defeat on Saturday afternoon at Diddle Arena. The loss ended a three-game road trip for the Rams, which shot just 25.4 percent for the game.

Junior guard
LaMar Taylor (Richmond, Va.) was the only Virginia Commonwealth player to reach double figures, as he tallied 14 points. Shawn Hampton (Baltimore, Md.) was the Rams' leading rebounder, as he grabbed 10 boards. The Hilltoppers' Lee Lampley was one of three Western Kentucky
players in double figures, as he finished with 24 points.

Western Kentucky built a lead early in the first half, but would see the Rams respond. Despite converting just 10 field goals in the first half, the Rams trailed just 31-27 at halftime.

The Hilltoppers would open the second half with a burst that Virginia Commonwealth would not be able to surmount. Western Kentucky scored the first 13 points of the second half to take a 44-27 lead. The Hilltoppers would lead by more than 20 at one point before the Rams would cut the
deficit to 12, 57-45, with just under seven minutes remaining in the contest. But Virginia Commonwealth's inability to convert would prevent them from closing the gap any further, as the Rams hit just eight of their 34 attempts in the final 20 minutes.

The Rams now stand at 3-4 on the season, while the Hilltoppers improved to 2-5. Virginia Commonwealth returns home for its next two games. The Rams will play host to Radford next Saturday night in the first of those two contests. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
