VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH RESUMES WINNING WAYS WITH 66-63 VICTORY OVER JAMES MADISON
Box Score
1-15-00
Virginia Commonwealth held off a late surge for a 66-63 win over James Madison on Saturday night in the ALLTEL Pavilion at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. It was the Rams' eighth win in 10 home games this season and the third straight win over the Dukes.

Junior guard
Bo Jones (Richmond, Va.) tallied 23 points for Virginia Commonwealth to lead all scorers. It was the fourth time in six games Jones cleared the 20-point mark. Scott Lilly ( (Charlotte, N.C.) added 13 points for the Rams. Sophomore forward Reggie Okosa (Claymont, Del.) came off the Virginia Commonwealth bench and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, his second double-digit rebounding effort of the season. James Madison was led by Jabari Outtz, who scored 20 points.

Virginia Commonwealth led much of the first half, but was unable to build a sizable advantage. James Madison took its only lead of the opening period when it went on top 13-12 at the 12:33 mark. A three-pointer by Lilly quickly erased that deficit for the Rams, and they would lead for more than 10 minutes. Trailing 26-20 with just under seven minutes left, the Dukes slowly chipped away at the Rams' edge. A layup by Jerian Younger with 1:09 remaining tied the score at 26, and would prove to be the final score of the period.

After falling behind early at the start of the second frame, James Madison rallied and went on top 43-39, its biggest lead of the game, with 13:16 left to play. Virginia Commonwealth would go on a 19-6 run over the next five minutes to go on top 58-49 after Jones converted a free throw to
complete a three-point play. The Dukes would chip away at the lead, but were never able to retake it as the Rams went on to the victory.

Virginia Commonwealth (9-5, 2-1 CAA) has now won six straight games in Richmond over James Madison (10-6, 4-2 CAA), with five of those wins coming in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Rams now take to the road for one game as they travel to North Carolina-Wilmington on Wednesday. That game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
