Elderhostel

Is there a subject you'd like to know more about? A place you'd really like to visit? Something you've always wanted to do? You can do all this through Elderhostel, the world's largest education and travel organization for adults aged 55 and over.

Elderhostel offers you the most diverse and affordable adventures in lifelong learning, with programs that excite your imagination, sharpen your intelligence, and put you in touch with interesting people in fascinating new places.

The Virginia Center on Aging at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) has provided Elderhostel programs for more than 30 years. We offer approximately sixty programs annually at our Natural Bridge, Richmond, Staunton, and Harrisonburg hotel locations. VCU Elderhostels range from two to seven days in length. VCU Elderhostel program-related field trips include:
- Art and history museums
- Plantations
- Presidential homes, like Monticello, Poplar Forest, Mt. Vernon
- Historic churches
- Historic homes and mansions
- Homes and headquarters of generals and other commanders
- The Blackfriars Theater
- Monuments, cemeteries, shrines, taverns and courthouses
- Forts, battlefields and military institutes
- Virginia's Capitol
- gardens and botanical Centers
- Scenic byways, mountain trails, the Blue Ridge, and Natural Bridge Gorge
- The Shenandoah Valley and Shenandoah National Park
- Historic springs and spas
