New ARDRAF 25 Years 2007 Videos

The Alzheimer's and Related Diseases Research Award Fund (ARDRAF) is a special appropriation administered by the Virginia Center on Aging to support promising lines of inquiry by Virginia-based researchers into the causes, consequences, and treatment of dementing illnesses. Enacted in 1982 following a bill introduced by Delegate Ken Plum in the Virginia General Assembly, it has proved to be an exceptional catalyst for meaningful research findings affecting clinical practice, family caregiving, medication management, public policy, understanding of cellular functioning, and more; it has led directly to more than 240 published research articles and many successful grant proposals to non-state funding sources, such as the National Institutes of Health and private foundations. These subsequent projects translate to a $10 return to Virginia for every $1 in General Fund appropriation from the General Assembly.

The Virginia Center on Aging celebrated ARDRAF’s 25th anniversary in 2007, inviting several previous awardees to comment on their ARDRAF seed grant projects and subsequent related developments.
