Because of the diversity of both our patients and their medical problems, VCU Urology has a long history of working with others within the VCU system to provide the highest level of care to our patients. Working with other medical professionals along with researchers within the main VCU campus, we are able to provide 21st century state-of-the-art treatments.

Massey Cancer Center | Urologic Tumor Clinic

VCU Massey Cancer Center logoOur urologists provide oncology services to the Massey Cancer Center, an NCI designated Cancer Center. Drs. Grob, Guruli, Hampton, and Orton are fellowship trained urologic oncologists offering all cancer treatments including robotic, laparoscopic, percutaneous, and open procedures.  Along with the departments of Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology, we provide care to the most complex and difficult patient problems at the Urologic Tumor Clinic (UTC).  The UTC is a multidisciplinary clinic where patients can be seen by all three cancer specialists at one clinic visit.  Prior to each appointment, the Urologic Tumor Board meets to discuss each patient individually and to personally review all pathologic specimens with our Genitourinary Pathologist, Dr. Ema Dragoescu

VCU Medical Center
| Robotic Surgery

da Vinci robotAs Director of Robotic Surgery for VCU Medical Center, Dr. Hampton provides leadership to the development and continued success of the Robotic Surgery Program.  Dr. Hampton has proctored surgeons from both within the VCU Health System and nationwide.  He has also lectured extensively on robotic surgery both nationally and internationally.  The Division of Urology works extensively with other services within VCU including gynecology, ENT, and surgical oncology to expand the use of the robotic surgical platform at VCU.

Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Hospital

Veterans Administration logoVCU Urology is the exclusive urology provider for veterans within the Virginia and northern North Carolina areas.  All of our faculty are also on staff at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center.  Dr. Mayer Grob is the Chief of Urology at the VA Medical Center.  Drs. Hampton, Grob, Guruli, and Orton also perform robotic surgery at the VA, which is one of the most experienced robotic teams at any VA medical center in the nation.

VCU Obstetrics & Gynecology

VCU logoWe have a very close relationship with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and share joint faculty appointments. Working with our colleagues within the Divisions of Urogynecology and Gynecologic Oncology, we are able to provide multidisciplinary care for the most complex pelvic procedures.  Recently, the 35th Bunts-Hackler Meeting was held in cooperation with the Division of Urogynecology.  This long-standing meeting provides another way to collaborate with our gynecologic colleagues.

VCU Biochemistry & Molecular Biology

VCU logoDr. Ratz is a professor of biochemistry and pediatrics and a member of our research faculty. He has two active NIH grants and conducts research on detrusor and vascular smooth muscle. He has published extensively on calcium and intracellular signaling and on the molecular mechanisms responsible for generation of passive and active force. His work continues to shed light on the pathophysiology of overactive bladder and poor bladder compliance.

VCU Mechanical Engineering

VCU logoDr. Speich is an associate professor of mechanical engineering. He is an expert in adjustable passive stiffness (APS) in the urinary bladder and is currently working to develop a biomechanical model of lower urinary tract function and dysfunction. A member of our research faculty, Dr. Speich is the recipient of a 2008-2010 Edwin Beer Fellowship in Urology and Urology-Related Fields from the New York Academy of Medicine to study stiffness regulation in the urinary bladder.

VCU Biomedical Engineering

VCU logoDr. Bowlin is an associate professor of biomedical engineering and an integral member of our research faculty. He holds several patents and extramural grants in the area of electrospinning of extracellular matrix. He has published extensively on the research and clinical applications of this technique, and his lab has pioneered development of composite matrices ideal for reconstruction of urologic tissues.

Virginia Urology

Virginia Urology logoA large private practice urology group in Richmond, Virginia Urology has been a trusted partner for many years. Several of the physicians in the group hold academic appointments and are directly involved with VCU Urology resident education. Many of the urologists in this group are alumni of VCU/MCV and continue to support the education of our residents.
