He is a board certified urologist who received fellowship training in bladder physiology and voiding dysfunction. Dr. Klausner holds additional appointments at the McGuire Veterans Affairs Hospital and at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Dr. Klausner received his undergraduate degree in English at Cornell University where he graduated with academic distinction. He achieved his medical degree at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York graduating magna cum laude and as an officer of the AOA national medical honor society. He completed residency training in urology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. After his residency, Dr. Klausner completed a basic science research fellowship investigating mechanisms of voiding and erectile dysfunction at the University Virginia. Since joining the faculty, Dr. Klausner has maintained a strong interest in basic science and clinical research. He has developed a strong basic science research collaboration with Dr. Paul Ratz studying detrusor smooth muscle physiology. Dr. Klausner is active in clinical research exploring bladder management of spinal cord injury patients and factors associated with incontinence in female veterans. He has published many articles in the peer-reviewed literature and has presented his work at national and international meetings. Dr. Klausner works toward the ideal of a surgeon-scientist, bringing clinical problems to the laboratory to identify new understandings and new therapies. He has developed a national reputation in his field and brings state-of-the-art clinical techniques and cutting-edge academic research to the Division of Urology at VCU. |
