VCU Massey Cancer Center Expands Urologic Oncology Center
Two new doctors, one new location and da Vinci robotic surgical system expand expert treatment for prostate, bladder and other cancers.
Dr. Georgi Guruli is an associate professor and the Director of Urologic Oncology. He received his medical degree from the Tbilisi State Medical University (Georgia), and his Ph.D. degree from the National Cancer Research Center (Moscow, Russia). He then completed his urologic surgery residency program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. After residency, Dr. Guruli was a recipient of the AFUD award, and completed the fellowship in urologic oncology in the Department of Urology at the University Of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
In 2003, Dr. Guruli joined the Division of Urology at UMDNJ New Jersey Medical School, as an assistant professor. His clinical interests include treatment of bladder cancer and other genitourinary malignancies (open surgical, laparoscopic or robotic assisted), as well as the utilization of various methods of urinary diversion. Dr. Guruli's research interests include general immunology as well as immunology and immunotherapy of prostate cancer. He is the recipient of the Physician Research Training Grant from the Department of Defense. Dr. Guruli is certified by the American Board of Urology and he is a member of the American Urological Association and American Association for Cancer Research.
