Academic Faculty > B. Mayer Grob, MD

Dr. Mayer Grob is an associate professor and the Urology Residency Program Director, and Director of Urologic Oncology at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. He is a board certified urologist who is fellowship trained in urologic oncology. In addition, Dr. Grob is the Chief of Urology at the McGuire VA Medical Center.

Dr. Grob received his undergraduate degree as an Echols Scholar from the University of Virginia. He then achieved his medical degree and completed his urology residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School. During his residency training, he developed a strong interest in urologic oncology and spent two years as a post-doctoral fellowship in order to perform basic science research in tumor immunology.

After finishing his residency training, Dr. Grob completed additional fellowship training in urologic oncology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, one of the top cancer centers in the world. There, he received subspecialty training in the surgical and medical management of urologic tumors and has maintained particular interest in patients with prostate cancer.

Dr. Grob remains dedicated to clinical research and is currently involved in projects regarding the chemoprevention of prostate cancer, targeted salvage brachytherapy for recurrent prostate cancer, and quality of life issues related to prostate health. He has published numerous articles in the urologic peer-reviewed literature and presented his work at national and international meetings.

Dr. Grob is a nationally recognized urologic oncologist who brings a wealth of clinical and academic excellence to the Division of Urology at VCU.
