Our Team Approach at the Urologic Tumor Center
VCU Massey Cancer Center pioneered the concept of multidisciplinary teams — a practice in which multiple genito-urinary cancer specialists meet regularly to evaluate, discuss and plan treatments for patients. This approach means that patients can get all of their treatments at the same place from people who work together and communicate regularly, rather than putting the burden on patients to coordinate communication among various doctors throughout the region.
Other team members include John Roberts, MD, a medical oncologist with expertise in kidney cancers, who also serves as associate director of clinical research for VCU Massey Cancer Center; Mitchell Anscher, chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology specializing in prostate cancers; Michael Hagan, MD, PhD, with expertise in genitourinary, prostate, bladder and testicular cancers and a researcher focused on the effects of irradiation on biological systems; Aaron Krill, MD, a surgeon specializing in urology who also performs pediatric surgeries; Mayer Grob, MD, a surgeon specializing in urology; Jinxing Yu, MD, a diagnostic radiologist; and Jennifer Hopsicker, RN, who coordinates the clinic.
