American
Association on Mental Retardation – The Association
has prepared an online resource that will augment its activities
and provide rapid access to information about the mental retardation
and disabilities field.
The Arc
of the United States – This online resource has
been developed to provide easy access to facts, contacts and
news updates about Arc's constituents and advocacy.
The Arc of Virginia
– The Arc of Virginia is a statewide advocacy organization
composed of individuals with disabilities, families and professionals
who care about people who have mental retardation and related
developmental disabilities.
Down
Syndrome – The Down Syndrome Web Site was established
in February of 1995 and is compiled from the contributions
of members of the Down Syndrome Listserv and others.
FRAXA
– FRAXA was founded in 1994 by three parents of children
with fragile X syndrome, to support scientific research aimed
at finding a treatment and a cure for fragile X syndrome.
Fragile X research is drastically underfunded, considering
its high prevalence, prospects for a cure, and the promise
that this research holds for advancing understanding of other
disorders like autism, Alzheimer's disease and X-linked mental
retardation.
The
Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Foundation – The mission of
the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Foundation is to provide leadership
in the field of mental retardation and service to persons
with mental retardation, both those born and unborn, and their
families.
IRSC
(Internet Resource for Special Children) – The IRSC
Web site is dedicated to children with disabilities and other
health-related disorders worldwide.
Little City Foundation
– Helping children and adults with mental retardation
and other developmental, emotional and/or behavioral challenges
live meaningful and happy lives with dignity and respect.
Murdoch
Center Foundation – The Murdoch Center Foundation
is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to education, training,
research, information dissemination and professional development
in the field of mental retardation. The foundation publishes
a variety of curriculum guides and assessment tools for use
with persons with developmental disabilities.
Our-Kids
– The Our-Kids Web site supports the Our-Kids e-mail
list. Our-Kids is a "family" of parents, caregivers and others
who are working with children with physical and/or mental
disabilities and delays.
President's
Committe on Mental Retardation – The President's
Committee on Mental Retardation is a federal advisory committee,
established by presidential executive order to advise the
President of the United States and the Secretary of Health
and Human Services on issues concerning citizens with mental
retardation; coordinate activities between different federal
agencies; and assess the impact of their policies upon the
lives of citizens with mental retardation and their families.
Save
Babies Through Screening – The mission of Save Babies
Through Screening is to improve the lives of babies by working
to prevent disabilities and death resulting from disorders
detectable through newborn screening. We are a national nonprofit
advocacy organization which is currently run solely by volunteers.
State
Mental Health Agency & Mental Retardation Program –
The mission of the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation
and Substance Abuse Services is to improve the quality of
life for people with mental disabilities and substance abuse
problems by providing the very best services possible, at
minimal burden to the taxpayer. The department works to effectively
treat those who need services and to prevent the development
of mental disabilities and substance abuse problems. This
is accomplished through a coordinated system of care that
respects and promotes the dignity, rights and full participation
of individuals and their families.
