New Student Programs & OrientationVCU Works
VCU Works provides meaningful on-campus employment opportunities that contribute to your academic success and personal development. VCU Works is designed to enhance the probability that you'll achieve your educational and personal goals at VCU.VCU Works is based on the premise that on-campus employment, with a mentor who also serves as a supervisor, contributes to the academic and social growth of students. In addition, VCU Works directly addresses the financial obstacles for those with financial need.
Students must apply to be eligible to participate in the VCU Works program. Students will receive help to find relevant on-campus jobs, where you’ll work up to approximately 20 hours per week. Students are expected to attend pre-employment training and ongoing personal development workshops. Information about the VCU Works program is available from the coordinator located in the University College.

VCU Works student Cody Artiglia, a sophomore biology major, worked for Emily Watkinson with the VCU Biology Department, setting up and maintaining a 225 gallon saltwater tank. Instructors in the department use the tank when they are teaching taxonomy and classification.
"Through this position, I have learned time management, and since I started with VCU Works, my grades have gone up," said Artiglia. "I have also made close contact with a lot of faculty here at VCU, and I have built relationships with them that will help me with other jobs in the future."
