The Office of Pre-Health Sciences and Pre-Law Advising serves the students of Virginia Commonwealth University by providing information on curricula, course sequencing, volunteer service and application procedures to assist them in gaining admission to undergraduate-, graduate- and professional-level programs in the health sciences and legal studies.

Most students pursuing careers in the health sciences and law enter the College of Humanities and Sciences with a major or concentration in a pre-health or law field that they select at the time of admission to VCU. Upon successfully completing or nearing completion of pre-requisite courses, students can apply for a position in a health sciences or legal program. Typically, acceptance to an undergraduate- or graduate-level program in the health sciences and law requires high grades, competitive scores on standardized tests, excellent letters of reference and experience in a health care or legal setting.

Advisors assist students who are interested in clinical radiation sciences, clinical laboratory sciences, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, dental hygiene, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary science, optometry, and law. In addition, resources and advising to help students explore all fields of healthcare and legal studies are provided.

Our pre-health and pre-law advising staff specializes in assisting students who are interested in particular areas. In addition, admissions deans and directors from health professions and legal programs play a role in advising students.

Current students are assigned  to pre-health advisors based on their  class standing and the first letter of their last name. Students can visit my.vcu.edu to identify who their pre-health advisor is and to schedule appointments. All pre-law students are advised by the pre-law advisor.
