Transfer Student Orientation
Welcome Transfer Students!
Virginia Commonwealth University recognizes the valuable past experiences you are bringing to campus as a transfer student. It is important that you now become familiar with the specific academic policies and resources available here at VCU, your new campus community.
All transfer students must attend a one-day visit to campus to obtain valuable VCU information, complete advising and course registration, meet with representatives from various offices on campus and complete necessary final campus business.
Reservations are required and must be made online. You will receive an invitation via U.S. mail in April, with additional information regarding the online date reservation process. The sooner you make your online reservation, the better your chance of receiving your first choice of date. Dates are assigned on a first reserved basis. Each college limits the number of students per day, to allow for individual advising attention. It is important that you come to campus for Transfer Orientation on the date confirmed for you. Soon after you complete your online reservation and required payment, a confirmation will be sent via U.S. mail to your permanent address with additional program information.

School of Social Work: June 16 & July 7

Check-In and Costs
Check-in for Transfer Orientation is from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the Student Commons Building on the date you have reserved. Additional details regarding check-in location, parking and directions will be provided in your orientation confirmation mailing.
There is a required $40 fee for Transfer Orientation. This fee covers all materials for the orientation program, lunch and additional new student programs and other services provided throughout the academic year.
Parents and family members attending orientation with a student can puchase lunch tickets for $6.94 each.
Placement Tests
Transfer students are required to take placement tests if an equivalent course has not been completed and transferred from a previous institution. Please see the Placement Test Information section for additional testing details.
Transfer Credit from Virginia Community College
