The University College's Discovery Program for undeclared students was recognized nationally May 2, 2008 by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) as part of the 2008 Annual Awards Program for Academic Advising. The award, which recognizes innovative and exemplary advising programs, was officially presented during the annual NACADA conference in October, 2008.

 

Ananda Newmark, Retention and Recruitment Coordinator presented The Use of Technology in BSW Advising, Skills Workshop at the Council on Social Work Education, 2008 Annual Program Meeting, Philadelphia, PA.

 

Art Esposito, Director of Discovery Advising and University College academic advisor, has been a popular presenter at NACADA conferences.  His recent presentations include:

Art Esposito, University College academic advisor, served as a NACDA Academic Advising Consultant for Grant McEwan College in Edmonton Alberta, May 20 through 24, 2008. Hel presented on the use of web-based applications to engage student populations.

 

Art Esposito, University College academic advisor, presented "Email is for Old People: Wikis and Podcasts and Blogs, Oh My" and "Web 2.0 is for Millennials: An introduction to Online Applications as Advising Tools," at the NACADA Region 2 Conference in April 2008.

 

Art Esposito and Jennifer Sherry, University College academic advisors, presented "Virtual Advising, 24/7: Reaching the Millennial Generation" at the National Academic Advising Association's (NACADA) Region Two conference in March 2007, and presented it again at the NACADA National Conference in Baltimore in Oct. 2007 and at SACRAO (Southern Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers) in February 2008.

 

Sofia Hiort-Wright, director, Student Athlete Support Services, had her chapter, "The Pioneer: Caroline Sahlstrom" published by the Women's History Commission in the September 2007 book, The Unfolding Mystery of "Yes:" Women Who Were Forces For Change.

 

Michal Zivan Coffey, director, Campus Learning Center, " Focused Learning: Study Skills Paired Courses, A How to Guide," Pre-conference institute, College Reading and Learning Association National Conference, Portland, OR, 2007.

 

Martha Lou Green, University College associate dean, "It Takes a Village to Open a Gateway." (Oct. 17, 2007). Presented with Tim Coffey, VCU Residence Life and Housing, at the ACUHO-I Living Learning Programs: Gateway to Learning conference in St. Louis, Missouri.

 

Art Esposito, University College academic advisor, had his article, "Saving Face(book): Engage Through Facebook and Retain Relevance," published in the September 2007 edition of Academic Advising Today, the online quarterly publication of the National Academic Advising Association, for which he now serves on the editorial board.


Art Esposito, University College academic advisor, was a panelist for the "Hitting Them 'Where They Live': A Panel Discussion of On-Line Applications as Advising Tools" discussion at NACADA’s National Conference in Oct. 2007
