Career Exploration

There are many different types of jobs. Similar jobs are grouped together in Career Families or Career Pathways. Most career choices are in the following sixteen career families.

Online Resources

On Virginia View you can look at jobs within these families based on education level, income and workload and review detailed job descriptions giving typical job duties and projections of job growth. Virginia View is the Career Information System for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Career Prospects in Virginia is a locally based instrument that identifies and describes nearly 500 occupations and their requirements. It has good information about career and technical courses and post-secondary training. This is not an assessment tool but it's a useful career exploration tool.

Other on-line sources

KnowHowVirginia.org is a web site to help you discover your career. It includes information on career pathways and has information on regional activities.
