A resource for transitioning students with disabilities
My Life Beyond High School

My Life Beyond High School

Your source for valuable information and resources for transitioning students with disabilities.

This site is a tool to help you map out your path to adult life. It includes information on resources in the Superintendent’s Region 1 made up of the cities of Richmond, Petersburg, Colonial Heights, Hopewell, and the counties of Charles City, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, Powhatan, Prince George, Surry and Sussex.

Successfully making the transition to adulthood is hard work! You will need to gather information, talk to others, ask for their help, and think about what you really want. Making your dreams come true is up to you!

Programs for adults with disabilities are based on eligibility. Young people leaving the school system must find their own services to help them get a job and participate in community life. Many of the government agencies and charities that serve adults with disabilities have waiting lists. There is no guarantee that services for adults with disabilities will be available or will be provided without charge. No single organization can provide all the services and supports needed to live as an adult in the community.
