 The AT Lab
The Assistive Technology/ Technology Preview Lab contains a wide array of Assistive Technology from No tech - to Light tech - to High tech. Several of our resources include:
Software - for PC and MAC computers. We have developed a guide to help you know which software programs might be the most beneficial for particular age groups and for the various disabilities. For example we have Cause and Effect software for younger children and for cognitively-challenged older students; we have word prediction and talking software for students with learning disabilities; we have software to develop reading and math skills; and, we have software to help students with organization (Inspiration and Kidspiration®).
Switches - commercial switches such as plate switches, Big Red switches, jelly bean switches, tactile switches, head switches, gel switches, etc. to help students gain access to devices, toys and computers.
Augmentative Communication Devices - such as the Big Mack (not the sandwich!), Go Talk, Cheap Talk, Step by Step, the Tech Speak, Tech 4, plus others. Also, we have picture cards and holders for the cards.
Toys - of animals and vehicles that are battery operated and can be used with switches to motivate young children with disabilities.
Peripherals - such as mounting devices and devices for environmental control.
Computers - loaded with software such as Boardmaker ®or Writing with Symbols 2000®, so that you can come in to the Lab to make pictures or to write stories for your students. Or, you can try out our various software programs to see if you think your student or program would benefit from their purchase.
Assessment Kits - to help you assess your student’s needs in the areas of writing, augmentative communication, math and vocational areas.
