   About the Symposium

We are organizing a joint North American - European and South American Symposium on Science and Technology Education from May 31 to June 4, 2006. The symposium introduces a novel approach to the global exchange of ideas in Science and Technology Education. It will involve three regions of the world: North America, South America and Europe.

The symposium will be held simultaneously in three sites:

  1. One will be located at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, USA.

  2. The second site will be located at University of Cyprus, in Nicosia, Cyprus.

  3. The third site will be located at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru, in Lima, Peru.

The symposium sites will be connected through video-conference equipment for simultaneous broadcast of the sessions.  Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Cyprus, and Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru, have Internet connectivity through the United States, European and South American international backbone networks. This will allow us to interact with our distance learning technology using Internet-based videoconferencing systems. This will allow real-time audio and video communication between the three locations.

The Symposium will address world trends in science and technology education and will provide for scholarly exchange, discussion and other initiatives in the field of science and technology education. We will address the relevancy of what we teach and what the students should know in a world where science and technology have an increasing influence on the way we live and make decisions.
