The SportsCenter was developed with the idea of creating an innovative learning environment that would help prepare students interested in the sports industry for a successful career in the business. In 1999 VCU launced the VCU SportsCenter, a non-traditional sport leadership graduate program that focuses on experiential learning through hands-on experiences.

This new educational paradigm teaches students the necessary skills, giving them ownership of operational responsibility to the organization while providing access to upper-level coaches and administrators. Over the last half-decade, the VCU SportsCenter has matured into a leading “proving ground” for the next generation of leaders.
