What is SITAR?

  • The Society for Interpersonal Theory and Research is an international, multidisciplinary, scientific association devoted to the advancement of interpersonal theory and research. We welcome any individuals interested in understanding interpersonal process.

Our History:

  • SITAR was conceived in 1997 during a luncheon following an American Psychological Association symposium. We envisioned a small, congenial group devoted to the study of interpersonal process. We have succeeded in bringing that vision to fruition.
  • Since then, we have had ten annual meetings -- in Snow Bird, Utah; Madison, Wisconsin (twice); Evanston, Illinois; Montreal (twice), Toronto (twice), Vancouver, and Philadelphia. In 2008 we plan to head to Tempe, Arizona.
  • We are thriving and we are very welcoming of new members! To join, email our Executive Director, Steve Strack

Our Mission:

  • To provide a stimulating forum for facilitating and communicating work in the area of interpersonal theory, research, and application. We work to provide an inclusive, supportive atmoshere for budding ideas as well as well-established approaches.

Our Goals:

  • to encourage interpersonal research
  • to foster the communication, understanding, and application of research findings and/ or their application
  • to enhance the scientific and social value of this research

Our Activities:

  • regular meetings for the communication of current research ideas, methods, and findings
  • distribution of preliminary reports, preprints, and summaries of research findings and applications
  • development of collaborative research
  • maintenance of a listserv to which you may subscribe.
