Help Searching VCU Web Site

Topics

Faculty/Staff Directory Assistance

With this facility you can display job-related information, such as e-mail address and phone number, for any VCU faculty or staff member.

In the search field (Name and Department fields for Advanced Searching), type as much information as you know about the person (see guidelines below). Then move to the "submit" (or "search") button and select it to begin the information search.

Information will be displayed for all faculty and staff who match what you have typed. If there are too many matches (for example, if you tried to look up "smith" with no first name specified), the message "Too many entries to print" may be displayed. Try again using a more specific request.

To move between the Name and Department fields on the Advanced Search form, use the mouse or Tab key.

Here are some guidelines for typing information in the fields:

  • It does not matter whether you use capital letters or small letters.
  • In the search (or Name) field, you may type a first name or last name or both, in any order. Do NOT use commas or any other punctuation.
  • In the Department field on the Advanced Search form, you must type the "official" department name.
  • Do NOT type partial words (such as "johnso" or "anthropol") unless you use the "*" wildcard character described below.
  • You can use an asterisk * to represent "any set of characters" (including none). For example, if you don't remember if your colleague Zeke's last name is Robinson or Robertson, you could type "zeke rob*son". You could even type "z* rob*son" if you don't know how to spell Zeke.

Student Directory Assistance

With this facility you can display the e-mail address of any VCU student who has an account on one of the university's major computers.

In the search field type as much information as you know about the person (see guidelines below). Then move to the "submit" button and select it to begin the information search.

Information will be displayed for all students who match what you have typed. If there are too many matches (for example, if you tried to look up "smith" with no first name specified), the message "Too many entries to print" may be displayed. Try again using a more specific request.

Here are some guidelines for entering a name into the field:

  • You may type a first name or last name or both, in any order. Do NOT use commas or any other punctuation between the names ("-" or "'" within a name is allowed).
  • Do NOT type partial words (such as "johnso" or "macarth") unless you use the "*" wildcard character described below.
  • You can use an asterisk * to represent "any set of characters" (including none). For example, if you don't remember if your colleague Zeke's last name is Robinson or Robertson, you could type "zeke rob*son". You could even type "z* rob*son" if you don't know how to spell Zeke.
