Additional Recommendations

• Purchase an Accidental Damage Protection.
• For best results select a high capacity battery.
• The CD/DVD drive should dual layer.
• A theft recovery software subscription such as‚ LoJack for Laptops.
• A lockable security cable is recommended.
• For back-ups, get an external hard drive.
• One or more flash drives at least 1 GB in capacity.
• Anti-Virus Software - note: VCU provides Anti-Virus software to download for enrolled students.
• We strongly recommend that you do not use versions of Windows such as XP Home or Vista Home. These versions of Windows will not run statistical analysis software packages commonly used in VCU coursework. XP Pro and Vista Business or Vista Ultimate will.
• Use Microsoft Office 2003/2004 or higher for word processing, etc.

The most important computer requirement is not found in any computer you can buy.
If you require the most from your computer, that requires special care from you.
Computers abused by gross negligence and irresponsible web browsing and illegal file sharing can expect to receive delayed and/or fee based support response.
