    Mission

The goal of the Dissemination Working Group is to share in the development of products and curriculum that address the needs of the multiple audiences interested in information on SSI and work incentives including individuals with disabilities, family members, rehabilitation professionals, and teachers. In particular, it is our intent to address the role of schools in providing information and advocacy related to SSI and SSDI as part of the transition planning and IEP processes.

It is our intent to develop products and share information that addresses the following 5 major topics:

    1. Overview of SSI and SSDI
    2. Eligibility and access to SSI/SSDI, including age-related differences that occur as individuals turn 18
    3. Understanding and use of Work Incentives by SSI recipients
    4. Strategies for effective advocacy with the Social Security Administration and self-management of SSI/SSDI benefits
    5. The role of schools in supporting access to SSI and work incentives, and integration of income support needs with the IEP and transition planning

    Working Group Goals (1998-1999):

    1. Establish a series of Fact Sheets on the five major topic areas identified
    2. Establish a common Web Site for the Work Incentives Transition network
    3. Establish and moderate a discussion forum on the WITN Web site
