M ore and more people are accessing the Internet for information and education. Many educators and families now have access to computers. Merging these two aspects, the concept of Project TechLink was born over a year and a half ago. It came to life in the Fall of 1996 when the U.S. Department of Education funded Project TechLink for a three year grant period.

The purpose of TechLink is to disseminate information, through the World Wide Web (WWW) on transition and school to adulthood to teachers, parents and other related service personnel. Project TechLink staff gathers state-of-the-art information on transition best practices for students with severe disabilties which can be accessed via the WWW. Some of these practices include but are not limited to person-centered planning; development of individualized transition plans; inter-agency collaboration; collaborative transdisciplinary teams; community-referenced, functional, and age-appropriate curriculum; and community-based instruction resulting in paid integrated employment for students with the most severe disabilities.

Some of the things that we hope to accomplish over the next few years include the following:

Develop resource and support networks with other individuals across the World Wide Web
It is our hope that teachers, parents and other interested individuals will use TechLink to network with each other (via email and forums) to exchange resources, solve problems, and discuss issues related to effective programs for students with severe disabilities.

Access a consulting faculty of parents, professionals, and educators to answer your questions about school to adult life issues, and courses related to a variety of secondary issues.
We have identified an exciting consulting faculty of individuals across the United States who will be developing courses that you can access through our site. Some of these individuals are Paul Wehman, Sherril Moon, Paul Bates, David Pitonyak

Problem solve barriers to successful transition outcomes with other participants.
Project TechLink will maintain a data-base of participants across the country that you will be able to access to brainstorm solutions to issues and barriers.

Review and obtain state-of-the-art resource information
On our information and resources page, we will keep you posted on the latest journal articles, books and other resources that can assist you in developing programs for students with severe disabilities. If you have a specific request, you can also e-mail any of our project staff.

We look forward to meeting you and assisting you with your informational needs. We are glad that you have visited our site and hope you come back often! staff.
