Self-Management and Self-Determination Strategies: Promoting Independence in the Transition to Adult Life

continue   About the Course Materials

Much of the material for this course was developed as a result of my federally-funded research efforts. The material is based on an empirical model of support for students making the transition from school to adult life. In addition, federal funding allowed myself and my colleagues to survey over 100 secondary transition teachers throughout Tennessee to identify strategies they use to support students in the transition to adult life. These strategies became the content of a text, The Transition Handbook (co-authors Carolyn Hughes and Erik Carter), published during the Fall of 1999 by Paul H. Brookes Publishing. To learn more about the text, you may access The Transition Handbook web site at and Brookes Publishing at www.brookespublishing.com
