VCU Rice Center’s Director Receives Award
Leonard Smock, Ph.D., Director of the VCU Rice Center, was recently honored as the 2011 recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award of the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering in the Gillings School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Dr. Smock received his Ph.D. from the department in 1979.
As the department states: “This award was established in 1995 to recognize deserving graduates for their outstanding professional achievements and to provide role models for currently enrolled and future students of ESE. The award provides an open forum for distinguished alumni to be recognized and to share their expertise and experiences with various university constituents.”
Dr. Smock presented a seminar to the department titled “Spatial and temporal heterogeneity: implications for the ecology and bioassessment of blackwater streams.”
