Guidelines for Systematic Review of Undergraduate Programs

Systematic review of undergraduate programs is required both by The Strategic Plan for the Future of Virginia Commonwealth University and the State Council for Higher Education through its Restructuring Report required of all public universities in the Commonwealth. The guidelines that follow were approved by the University Undergraduate Curriculum Committee (4/13/95), augmented by the State Council for Higher Education Productivity Report requirements and requirements of Phase II of The Strategic Plan for the Future of Virginia Commonwealth University.

The purpose of systematic review of undergraduate programs is to improve the quality of undergraduate instruction. It should be diagnostic, tied to departmental mission statements, annual reviews, and assessment procedures already in place, and designed to facilitate progress in accomplishing the goals of the program. There are two parts to the process: an Annual Review Process and a Periodic Program Review Process:
