  • VTCC has long been the centerpiece of the commonwealth's mental health system for our children. This was true when I became secretary of health and human resources in the administration of Gov. Gerald Baliles 25 years ago. And it remains true today.

As a result of a budget-cutting effort during a previous state financial crisis, VTCC is now part of the VCU Health System. But its role remains the same: providing world-class mental health care for children; performing cutting-edge research on prevention and treatment issues; and training the next generation of children's mental health professionals -- physicians, nurses, social
    workers, and psychologists.

VTCC has won national and international recognition for the quality of its patient care, research, and training. MORE

  • As previously announced, Psychiatry Vice Chair & VTCC CEO Dr. Robert Cohen will be retiring from VCU effective June 30, 2011. Bob will remain in his role as Professor and Vice Chair until his retirement date. He has been an integral part of the growth and vision of our Department and he will be greatly missed.

The role of Vice Chair is an important one, and as such, I am excited to announce the appointment of Ananda Pandurangi, M.D. as a new Vice Chair, effective immediately.  Dr. Pandurangi is Professor of Psychiatry and the Medical Director and Chairman, Division of Inpatient Psychiatry as well as an Adjunct Professor of Radiology. Dr. Pandurangi joined us in 1984 and was promoted to Division Chair and Medical Director in 1992.  In his role, he directs psychiatric services on two acute inpatient units and a crisis stabilization unit, an electroconvulsive therapy program, a magnetic stimulation therapy program, a schizophrenia program, and emergency psychiatry.  In addition to being a leader, he is also a highly respected clinician. I am confident Dr. Pandurangi’s medical and interpersonal skills will make him a highly successful Vice Chair.

Additionally, Dr. James Levenson will continue in his role as department Vice Chair.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Pandurangi on his new role!
