Program Highlights

The VCU Medical Center, is consistently ranked among the US News and World Report "Best Hospitals"  in published surveys of both patients and practitioners. Faculty in the Department of Psychiatry includes around 200 full-time and part-time members. They represent many outstanding leaders in their fields, with national and international reputations. The resident schedule incorporates night float system, in-house moonlighting, and no call 4th year! Numerous resident leadership positions are available, in addition to chief resident positions. Incoming interns are matched with a senior resident & a faculty mentor for support and guidance. Post-residency fellowship opportunities are available in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine The department includes unique psychiatric programs such as the Center for Human-Animal Interaction  and the internationally recognized Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics . For research impact in psychiatry, VCU is ranked #5 internationally. For research funding, we are in the top quartile of US psychiatry departments. A Residency Research Track is available.
