  • Faculty in the Department of Psychiatry includes around 200 full-time and part-time members. They represent many outstanding leaders in their fields, with national and international reputations.
  • The resident schedule incorporates night float system, in-house moonlighting, and no call 4th year!
  • Numerous resident leadership positions are available, in addition to chief resident positions.
  • Incoming interns are matched with a senior resident & a faculty mentor for support and guidance.
  • Post-residency fellowship opportunities are available in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine
  • The department includes unique psychiatric programs such as the Center for Human-Animal Interaction  and the internationally recognized Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics .
