For the past 100 years, the Department of Psychiatry at VCU Medical Center has served
Virginia and the nation with mental health research, clinical care, teaching and community service. Our internationally-recognized units like the Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics, our division of consultation-liaison psychiatry and the Virginia Treatment Center for Children—keep us in the forefront of improving quality of life through the prevention and treatment of mental illness. With the mission of triumph over mental suffering, we are close to realizing even greater success.
Our goal is to advance the science and art of psychiatry.
“Most of today’s psychiatric health care is based on an explosion of knowledge gained in just the past dozen years. And our VCU Department of Psychiaty has made important contributions to the discovery of that new knowledge.”
