Insurance and Risk Management
The Office of Insurance and Risk Management supports the mission of Virginia Commonwealth University by developing and supporting programs that protect the core assets of the University and mitigating losses when they occur. Insurance and Risk Management is also responsible for the University-related foundations’ and the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park’s risk management program and we assist the VCU Medical Center with liability claims.
To protect University assets, we evaluate and maintain schedules of exposure, develop insurance policy specifications, place adequate insurance coverage, manage claims and advise the VCU Board of Visitors and University management on risk management issues.
We also look to University departments to identify, prevent or otherwise mitigate risks and potential future losses. We encourage faculty and staff to report any perceived risks they may encounter throughout the University.
