We support the mission of the University by performing the entire procurement function in an efficient, effective and customer-focused manner while ensuring diversity in expenditures reflective of the strength and diversity of its medical professionals, faculty, staff, students, patients and the community in which they live and serve.
Statement of values
We value our role at VCU and in our community. We endeavor to create a culture that builds a sense of organizational ownership; promotes customer service; encourages teamwork; supports creativity; and is dedicated to professional development. We believe contributing to our community enhances the quality of our lives. As a department, we strongly value the following:
Customer Service – We value our customers and support their efforts in a positive and effective manner.
Teamwork – We understand that to be successful, we must combine our collective talents and skills to accomplish organizational goals. We support each other in our daily tasks for the betterment of the “team.”
Positive Work Environment – We appreciate an environment wherein employees’ opinions are encouraged and appreciated. We value the opportunity to work independently, yet in concert with others. We work to maintain the level of trust that is essential to achieve success. We encourage innovative thinking and continuous process improvement. We recognize that it is not enough to merely meet our customers’ expectations, we must constantly strive to exceed them.
Vendor Relations – We appreciate the support vendors give to the University. We recognize that vendors are also our customers and we treat them in a professional/courteous manner. We believe that vendors should be provided with fair and equal access to the University’s business.
Diversity in Expenditures – We believe in actively recruiting and supporting small, minority and women-owned businesses to ensure diversity in our expenditures. We understand that by supporting this effort we will contribute to the economic betterment of all citizens.
Professional Development – As University employees, we recognize the significant role continuing education plays in developing a person’s professional skills and enriching one’s life. We believe that organizations become stronger and more productive when employees explore further educational/development opportunities. We understand organizations will not flourish or realize their full potential, without the growth of their people.
Ethics – In the spirit of public administration, we believe in managing public affairs to standards of fairness and equity.
Community and Family – We believe in the importance of maintaining balance between work and family/community. We encourage our employees to lead balanced lives, on the belief that such balance results in a more productive, happy and creative employee.
