The VCU Police Department has a Citizen Ride-Along Program available where a
student, staff member, faculty, or member of the community can ride along with
an officer during a shift. This allows members of the VCU community to view, first
hand, the daily activities of a VCU police officer and the issues facing today's law
enforcement. If you are interested in this program, print out the form and complete
it. Bring the request form to the Communications Center at the VCUPD Headquarters
at 938 West Grace Street. The regulations explaining the rules for the Ride
Along are provided for you at the bottom of this page.

REGULATIONS FOR PARTICIPANTS IN RIDE-ALONG PROGRAM

Note that a Background Investigation will be completed on you before you may participate
in the Ride-Along Program.

1) It is important that you do not reveal what you see or hear during your tour concerning
actions which could impede the prosecution of any case.

2) For the most part, you will be a silent observer.

3) You will obey, without question or hesitation, any order from the officer assigned to you.

4) All observers must be members of the University Community.

5) All observers must conform, within reason, to dress codes associated with contemporary
police practices. We know you are a civilian, but we cannot permit the grossly appearance of
a passenger in a police vehicle to detract from our image. Please dress appropriately.

6) You will not take an active part in any police situation during your tour except if specifically
requested to do so by the officer assigned to you or a supervisor.

7) You may be requested to leave the vehicle and wait at a designated location, in the unlikely
event that there is a very dangerous call to which your assigned officer must respond.
