Selection Process: The selection process includes a preliminary interview, a full VCIN/NCIC/DMV records check, 6 letters of reference (3 business and 3 personal), fingerprint based CCRE/FBI check, psychological review, written 500 word essay, birth certificate copy required, copies of school transcripts, military DD214 copy (where applicable), citizenship check, a full physical exam by a licensed physician and a drug screen test upon job offer; the final selections are made by an oral review board. ![]() Lateral (In-State): Must be currently working and certified as a police officer in Virginia by the Department of Criminal Justice Services. Lateral (Out-of-State): Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services will evaluate your current state certification for compliance with the Commonwealth of Virginia's high standards for law enforcement training. You must be currently certified in your state.
