About the Investigations Division
This division is responsible for the investigation of all criminal offenses, internal investigations and plain-clothes operations. Specifically, detectives investigate all serious criminal offenses. They also provide security coverage for distinguished guests of the university and serve as liaison with the Commonwealth Attorney's office, the FBI and other law enforcement authorities.

Investigative Methods
The investigators are constantly being trained in innovative methods of investigations. They have access to state-of-the-art equipment and computer-assisted investigative capabilities. Detectives of the VCU Police Department, quite often in conjunction with the VCU Counseling Center and the VCU Police Victim Witness Coordinator, assist crime victims in the criminal justice system.
