Child Life Program at the Children's Medical Center

The Child Life Program at VCU Children's Medical Center is designed to help children and their families cope with their health care experiences. We believe in having someone specially trained to meet the child's emotional needs. One of the best ways for children to cope is through play. Play provides opportunities for self-expression, creativity and an outlet for emotions. Play also provides a sense of control, safety and normalcy in the child's environment. Child Life also can emotionally prepare children and their families for procedures, operations or treatments that may occur. Child Life also will accompany children to these procedures to provide support to patients and families.
