New Initiatives

VCU International Adoption Medical Clinic

In May of 2007, VCU launched a new International Adoption Medical Clinic. This clinic is designed to assist parents with issues related to adoption and parenting a child from a foreign country. Children adopted from a foreign country can present a myriad of issues depending on their circumstances. Issues of neglect, malnutrition, abuse can be seen as well as medical conditions such as infections, delayed social interactions and both motor and emotional ages below their chronological age.

The VCU Clinic is designed to provide support to parents who are beginning the adoption process by assisting with pre-adoption counseling; assessment of medical reports and other documentation of proprosed or referred patients and to provide complete evaluations of children once they arrive in the US in order to assist parents in activites that will allow their child to reach their maximum potential.

The following links have some basic information concerning the VCU IAMC. Please contact Dr. Lavoie for more information.
